Instructors Testing Paitients
Mrs. Scott has now officially pissed me off, she has caused a need for a new status to be created for GITI Assignments.
Possible Upgrade to Blog
I have completed 2 template candidates for my blog, feedback is greatly apprechiated from my readers.
Candidate 1 – http://www.realmofcurtis.net/DT1
or
Candidate 2 – http://www.realmofcurtis.net/DT2.
or
Candidate 3 – http://www.realmofcurtis.net/DT3
These demos are created in much the same way as the actual blog is, so everything should be almost exact. I have been considering something like this for a while, but have just not cared much about it until now.
More Mid-Term Fun
For my ITCS1215 (Intro to Computer Sci II) online course, in the instruction page on WebCTfor the mid-term it states “Be sure to read the instruction page in the WebCT mid-term link before beginning the exam”. Am I missing something here, or is Mrs. Scott being loopy again?
As Quickly As It Began, It Was Over
Well… I went to my ITIS2300 Exam today.
10:53 – Arrive in Atkins 126
11:01 – Exams distributed
11:06 – Exam start signaled
11:17 – Exam complete and turned in
The exam was 5 “short” answer essay questions. By “short” he meant tiny. No complete sentances were needed, “list 3” or “list 5” was the instruction on most of the questions.
Mr. Long’s humor in teaching has its place, today was one of those times, I don’t know that I have ever been so relaxed for an exam. The combination of factors was just so strange. I saw my first ever UNCC blue book, its one of those things that high school teachers tell you to expect, but then I just had never seen one and the seriousness of the book itself made me somewhat uneasy, up until the point when Mr. Long said “if you like, sign the academic integrity policy if you like, I dont care, I trust all of you”. He followed that one with “oh, and if you would, turn them in in alphabetical order so I can grade them easier”. The exam itself I would describe as “comprehensive”, it hit all of the points it needed to hit and pretty much confirmed whether or not we knew what we were supposed to. That being said, ever since I began college back in high school (insert chuckles here) I have been used to the word “exam” creating fear and anxiety and it being associated with a long strenuous test. No so in this case, I had seen all of the questions before (see link below), and the exam was a tiny half page document, printed on cheap paper. Way to go Mr. Long, your exam was just what it should have been, no more no less (although, a bonus question asking us to identify the crusty ole broad may have lightened the mood a little more at the end).
Exam Questions (all possible): http://coitweb.uncc.edu/~NBLONG/ITIS%202300/exams%20with%20midterm%20questions.htm
The ones he selected were:
- List at least three ways to define the audience for a Web site.
- What are the five navigation questions that each page must answer for users?
- List several ways in which an organization can communicate its identify through its Web site?
- List four guidelines for displaying text on a Web page.
- Explain the trade-off between bandwidth and video quality on the Web.
Happy Birthday Chris!
Happy birthday to Chris. Cheer up buddy, youve done a lot this year! You are a great friend and a very talented individual. “Life wakes you up, things change”

Hiking at Crowders Mountain
Yesterday was a very eventful day for me in comparison to most other days for me. At a little passed noon Chris called me and asked if I want to talk to him in person in a quiet location. My first thought was his room or on a drive somewhere, but for once he was actually being more adventuous, he wanted to go hiking! It took a little bit of convincing for him to get me to do it, but I agreed finally. The idea originally came from Marshall though, on Monday he was telling me about his trips on Thursdays to go for a run up the mountain, and I was pretty much pasting every line he typed to Chris. If I ran up like him, I would be dead now. Chris and I went to Crowders Mountain and took a slightly more leisurly pace at it. The difficulty level of the hike was supposed to be strenuous, but it was a fairly nice path, there were some rocks, but nothing I couldn’t handle. We hiked Pinnacle Trail, Fern Trail and then Lake Trail, then we had to walk back up the road to the visitors center, as we were nearing the end of availible time before the park closed. I am presently a little sore, but not bad considering the distance walked. I am really looking forward to doing it more often now. Chris usually gets bored with things we do repetitively, but if we explore new trails each time we go, it shouldn’t be too boring, and the physical challenge portion of it makes it more fun.
We got a few pictures while we were there, but I don’t have access to them at the moment, as im posting from Barnard Labs (although, a different lab in Barnard than usual). I will post the images as soon as I can.

ok, I know these computer sci people are like major nerds, but what the fuck?
Committment
When the sun rises tomorrow morning I will no longer live by the rules set for my life in GITI. I am a human. In my existence my goal is to be happy, I shall no longer let things internal to myself of exterior to myself bog me down. It is time to put something in the shell.
Happy Post
After that last post I decided I should now post a happy post. I am fine, and didn’t kill myself (obviously). There is a new policy on my blog I think… no more trackbacks to public blog repositories, they generate scary conservative people who want to leave nasty blog entries for me.
I have not been doing a lot of stuff lately that would be classified as cheerful, so I really need to get back to that. I have been mostly focusing on academic stuff, and not letting loose to do fun stuff. In the proccess I have been stressing myself out and over-complicating things. Blog entries such as the previous one should not occur when my life is normal. While I realize that some of the things I do in my life aren’t always the best I could do, I shouldn’t immediately drop to the “evil person” persona and think that there is no good that I can do. My personality is greatly variable and I can change things within myself to be closer to my ideal self.
